Carl Raymond Barhorst, 80, 718 S. Walnut Ave., Sidney, Ohio passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 9:10 PM. He was born January 11, 1944 in Sidney, Ohio. He was the son of Raymond George and Veronica (Drees) Barhorst and they are deceased. In 2000, on September 19, Carl married his beloved wife, Ellen Elizabeth (Iza) Barhorst, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Kevin Barhorst of Canal Winchester, Ohio; Carrie Clarke of Hawaii, Sarah Barhorst of Columbus, Ohio; Grace Knittle of Dublin, Ohio; and Greg (Wendy) Barhorst of Tipp City, Ohio, as well as 7 grandchildren. Carl also leaves behind his two beloved brothers, Louis (Kathleen) and Ralph (Janet) Barhorst, both of Tipp City, Ohio. Often times, Carl would reflect back on his brother Jerome, who passed away during infancy.
Mr. Barhorst studied business at the University of Cincinnati, and then stationed his career at Hobart Brothers as a Payroll and Financial Specialist. He had many hobbies, but one that he had mastered; Stained Glass Making. Carl was known for his stained glass creations, and enjoyed making memorable pieces for his family and friends, and even made several pieces that can be seen inside of Holy Angels Catholic Church, where he was a devoted member. He was also a member for many years at the Knights of Columbus.
In Carls younger years, he was diagnosed with Polio, but that never stopped his integrity or willpower! Honorably, in 1950, Carl was a poster child for the March of Dimes. Throughout his life, he loved sports of any kind, but most importantly enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. In fact, In 1961, Carl and his brother Louis made a very special trip to Bronx, New York, and attended the World Series. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Father Alex Biryomumeisho at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Ohio. A visitation is Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4-7 PM with a rosary service at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Carl will be deeply missed by his loving wife, his children, brothers, and his beloved family and friends. May he rest in peace.
