Darrell Edward Applegate, 82, 744 Brooklyn Ave., Lot, 14, Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7:00 AM at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney of a sudden illness. He was born July 12, 1931 in Sidney, Ohio the son of Robert and Catherine (Spangler) Applegate and they are deceased. He married Mary Rike on November 9, 1963 and she survives in Sidney. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Surviving also is a son, Robin Applegate of Sidney and a daughter, Darcy Winchester and husband Pete of Sidney and a step-son, John Todd of Lakeside, California. Also surviving is a sister, Zelma Jones of Sidney and six grandchildren, Jeremy Todd, Charisa Todd, Jay Todd, Keith Blas, Luke Applegate and Nicole McCluskey and six great-grandchildren and a step daughter-in-law, Sheila Todd of Sidney. One son, Brett Applegate, two step-sons, Jeffrey Todd and Jim Todd, one sister, Dorothy Applegate and three brothers, Leo, Eugene, and Keith Applegate are deceased. Mr. Applegate was a 1949 graduate of Sidney High School. He had worked at Liberty Folder and then worked for LeRoi-Dresser in Sidney for 32 years. He later worked at Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Staples. He was a United States Navy veteran in the Korean War. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion, VFW and AMVETS and was a member of the North Broadway Church of Christ in Sidney. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the North Broadway Church of Christ, 2655 Broadway AVe., Sidney, Ohio at 1:30 PM with Evangelist Brent Wright. Burial will follow with full military honors at Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson, Ohio. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 2-4 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Braodway Church of Christ, 2655 Broadway Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
