Dr. Gordon Stanley Libbee

Dr. Gordon (Doc) Stanley Libbee, 83, passed away very peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Wapak Manor. He was born January 20, 1932 in Sidney, Ohio to John S. and Mary E. (Jones) Libbee. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1950. Gordon married Patricia Romaker on May 17, 1952. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2014. Dr. Libbee served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955. After his service, he attended The Ohio State University School of Optometry where he earned his Doctorate. After graduation, he practiced optometry in Wapakoneta until his retirement in 1985. Gordon was a faithful longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He is survived by two sisters, Patricia A. (Herb) Hoover of Naples, Florida, Phyllis J. (Larry) Leininger of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, sister-in-law, Jane Cotrell of Piqua, Ohio, brothers-in-law, James (Joan) Romaker of Sidney, Ohio and R. James Jones of Sidney, Ohio. Also surviving are nieces, Candance Hoover, Sue Hull, Denise McCracken, Debbie Rhodes and Gayle Sherman and nephews, Allan Cotrell, Douglas Hoover, Michael Hoover, Phil Jones, Scott Jones, Gregory Leininger, David Romaker and Jerry Romaker along with special friends, Carol and Denny Lucas, eighteen great nieces and nephews and numerous great great nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Virginia Jones, brother-in-law, Terry Cotrell, and nephews, Thomas Cotrell and Greg Jones. Gordon loved traveling with his wife and their cats all over the country in their RV. After retirement, they spent their winters in Florida. Gordon also enjoyed all of the wildlife on his property and took great care of them. He was well known in the community and liked by all who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Wapak Manor for taking such great care of Gordon in the time that hes been there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 101 West Pearl Street, Wapakoneta, Ohio with Rev. Pat Sloneker officiating. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5-7 PM.
