Eileen Wagner, 97, formerly of Sidney, passed away June 26, 2024, with her rosary in her hand. Born on the family farm in Fort Loramie, Ohio on October 25, 1926, the sixth of eleven children born to Catherine (Barhorst) and Albert Boerger, Eileen graduated from Ft. Loramie High School in 1945. On January 15, 1955, Eileen married William Frederick Wagner and after 58 years of marriage, Fred predeceased her in 2013.
Eileen loved being a mother to her daughters, Sylvia (Steve) Cover, with whom she made her home in Columbus for the last eight years and Sara (J. Michael) Skelton of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, a grandma to Abby Cover and Fletcher Skelton, both of Columbus, and Julie (Joe) Kruger of Galion, and a great grandma, otherwise known as Old GG, to Will, Claire, and Jack Kruger. She is survived by one sister, Jane Yeazell of Florida and sister-in-laws Marcia and Rita Boerger. Also left to celebrate Eileen are many nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to her parents and husband, her siblings, in-laws, other members of her large family, and many friends welcomed her to heaven.
Very involved in her community, the Shelby County Democrats named her the Democrat of the Year twice in the seventies. She continued to keep up with current events throughout her life and hoped to proudly cast her vote for her favorite democrats in November.
As a woman of strong faith, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eileen at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, where Eileen was baptized, made her First Holy Communion and Confirmation, and was married, on July 1, 2024 at 11 AM with burial to follow at St. Michaels Cemetery. A celebration of life will also be held in Columbus at a later date.
