Gerald V. Vanderhorst

Gerald V. Vanderhorst, 79, 426 S. Franklin Ave., Sidney, Ohio passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 8:30 AM at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg, Ohio from non-hodgkins lymphoma. He was born November 15, 1935 in Minster, Ohio, the son of Lawrence and Hilda (Hartings) Vanderhorst and they are deceased and also a brother, Ronald Vanderhorst and a sister-in-law, Sue Platfoot are deceased. He was married to Carolyn Graves on June 20, 1964 and she survives along with three children, Gerald Vanderhorst Jr. and wife Angela of Sidney, Ohio, Milissa Manfre and husband Paul of Centerville, Ohio and Michelle Wessling and husband Gerald of Palmer, Alaska; two brothers, Dennis Vanderhorst and wife Sally of Dayton, Ohio and Glen Vanderhorst and wife Dana of Sidney, Ohio and a sister-in-law, Anne Vanderhorst of Covington, Ohio and a sister-in-law, Deb Lumbatis of Conover, Ohio and a brother-in-law, Wayne Lumbatis of Conover, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Lauren Vanderhorst, Adam Vanderhorst, Alex Vanderhorst, Joseph Manfre, Isaac Manfre, Gerald Wessling and Mary Wessling. He was a 1953 graduate of Holy Angels School. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a great athlete in baseball and basketball. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Frank Amberger. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 1-4 PM. A Knights of Columbus service will be held at 3:45 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 324 S. Ohio Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
