Dick now not only lived on a farm almost adjacent to his parents, but he was also sleeping in the same room where he had been born thirty years earlier. Dick made his living and raised his four children on this farm for the next 17 years. He had a special role in raising Pat so that Kate could go to work at Wilson Memorial hospital. During this period Dick was elected Orange Township Trustee, served on the Shelby county Democratic Central committee, and served as commander of the Sidney American Legion. He was also a member of the VFW and the 40&8 veterans organization. In 1969, Dick injured is back and his doctors ordered that he quit farming. Dick took up golf after retirement, shot a hole in one on number 3 at Shelby Oaks in Sidney in 2001, and played regularly until he was ninety. He also volunteered as a Big Brother with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Shelby County. In May of 1988, at age 61, Kate Moloney died. Dick and Kate had been married 40 years. He met Anne Spoltman in 1994, and they loved and supported each other for 20 years. Dick moved into Dorothy Love Retirement Community in January of 2013.
