Janet Anne (Humphrey) Eakins, 89, passed away at Springmead in Tipp City. She was born in Hillsboro, Ohio in Highland County on Dec. 12th, 1934. To the late Hamer Donald and Grace Lillian (McClure) Humphrey. Janet married Robert Glen Eakins of Wilmington, Ohio June 21st, 1952. She came to Sidney from Wilmington, Ohio in 1970. Her sweetheart Robert preceded her in death on June 7th, 1995, just 43 years to the day when they had applied for their marriage license.


She is survived by her 2 sons and 2 daughters in law: Steven Robert Eakins and wife Vickie of Troy, OH and Glen Alan Eakins and wife Tracy of Brookville, OH. Janet has four grandchildren, Angela Ann, Scott, Derek, and Kaylee, and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Theodore, Sebastien, and Luke; all of whom she adored. She is also survived by a sister, Connie Holmes of Wilmington, and 3 brothers-in-law and their wives on her husband's side: Mr & Mrs James (Barbara) Eakins of Shelby, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. William (Terry) Eakins of Xenia, Ohio, and Mr. & Mrs David (Phyllis Eakins) Wisecup of Xenia, Ohio. Janet also had many cousins, nieces, and nephews on both sides of the family that she loved very much. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.


Her faith in Christ was everything to her. She was a member of North Broadway Church of Christ. Janet Eakins had worked at Holloway Sportswear in Jackson Center, Ohio, Gem Sportswear Manufacturing in Russells Point, Ohio and Leader Sportswear in Sidney, Ohio. After the death of her husband, she worked as a sales clerk in the jewelry department at WalMart in Sidney. While she took pride in her work, she delighted in many hobbies and activities. She loved to write poetry, crochet, sing, play the piano/organ, and travel. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ohio's Hospice.
