Judy S. Bell, 87, died at the Pavilion Nursing Home on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 1:20 PM. She was born on April 2, 1925 in Marysville, Ohio, the daughter of W. J. and Ruth (Herd) Skidmore and they preceded her in death. She was married to Maurice Bell on May 5, 1962. He died in 1997. Surviving is one son, Anthony Peter Bell of Decatur, Indiana; one daughter-in-law, Annette Bell of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; four grandchildren, Erika, Ashlee, Jared and Nicole Bell; 'adopted family', Rich and wife Julie Watkins and their children, David, Taylor and Jackson Watkins of Sidney; and sister, Emma Spence of Rushsylvania, Ohio and a brother-in-law, Carl Bell and sister-in-law, Isabelle Bell of Sidney, Ohio; two brothers and three sisters are deceased. She was a United States veteran of the Army Air Corp. from 1945-1948 and the United States Air Force from 1948-1951. She owned a nursing home in Cresta Loma, California for 10 years, then came back to Ohio and worked at Detroit Aluminum in Bellefontaine, Ohio; RBM in Kenton, Ohio and Excello in Lima, Ohio. She farmed with her husband in Sidney and raised bees for honey. She was the first woman bee inspector for the State of Ohio. She was a member of the Fairlawn PTA for many years and was on the Board of Education at Fairlawn Schools for 12 years. She was one of the first members of the Perry-Port Jefferson-Salem Rescue Squad. She was of the Catholic faith. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Rushsylvania Cemetery, Rushsylvania, Ohio. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tree Board of Sidney, 201 W. Poplar St., Sidney, Ohio 45365 or the Shelby County Schools or Logan County Schools for education benefits for grades K-6.
