Laura J. Phillis

Laura J. Phillis, 88, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away at the Sidney Care Center in Sidney on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 4:30 PM. She was born on September 4, 1928 in Miami County, Ohio the daughter of Roy E. and Elizabeth F. (Schaffer) Davis and they are deceased. She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Susie and Lacy Mayse of Lockington, and Julia and Eldon Cost of Sidney; four grandchildren, Melanie Hasty, Jodie Cassidy, Catrina Phillis, Brian (Misty) Phillis and five great-grandchildren, Trenton Hughes, Taylor Russell, Tarrynn Russell, Caleigh Ferree, Damion Phillis and one great-great grandchild, Emma Russell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also survived by her beloved dog, Wagner. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford J. Phillis who she married on December 18, 1946. He passed away in 2010. Also preceding her in death are two sons, Larry J. Phillis, Garry L. Phillis; five sisters, Clara Brewer, Mabel Pearson, Meriam Swob, Lois Yearsley and Nancy Davis-Ross and three brothers, Jack Davis, Ned Davis and Roy Davis Jr. She was a graduate of Houston High School and had worked at Copeland Corporation Sidney for 40 years as a floor inspector and retired in 1991. She liked to can and freeze her garden vegetables and crochet. She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Lockington EUB Church. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington, Ohio with lay pastor, Christine Mertz. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
