Marie Elizabeth Cotton

Marie Elizabeth Fisher Cotton, age 85, died peacefully at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio on October 28, 2014, hours after the death of her beloved husband of 64 years, Wendell F. Cotton. Marie taught English at Midview High School, Grafton, Ohio for 20 years. She designed and taught a Bible as Literature course. Marie also, seeing how many of her students from the effects of alcoholism in the family, started Ala-Teen support group. Many students thanked her for her devotion to teaching, several crediting Marie with inspiring them to become teachers themselves. Marie was a devoted member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), founding, with husband Wendell, the Sidney Quaker group. Marie spent quiet devotional time with God daily. Her genuine compassion for all persons touched everyone who met her. Marie was preceded in death by parents, Martha (nee Recht) and Thomas W. Fisher of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Marie is survived by sisters Barbara Nichols of Milbury, Ohio, Ellen Smith of Tampa, Florida and brother, Thomas H. (Linda) Fisher of McMinnville, Tennessee. Children: Corrine (Joe) Precourt of Sandspit, British Columbia, Brad (Toye) Cotton of Circleville, Ohio, Ryan (Karen) Cotton of Holland, Michigan and Tyler (Laura) Cotton of Elyria, Ohio as well as 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Marie has unselfishly donated her body to the Ohio State University College of Medicine. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Marie and her husband Wendell is scheduled at the Amos Chapel, Dorothy Love Retirement Community on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 11:30 AM. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donors choice. Maries bright presence will be deeply missed. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney is handling the funeral arrangements.
