Mildred A. Wachsmuth

Mildred Alice (Behner) Wachsmuth, 98, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 5:55 PM at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio. She was born on September 29, 1919 in Asheville, North Carolina to Edward Thomas Behner and Annabelle Blackwell. She was brought up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Villa Angela Academy. On April 23, 1941, she married Joseph Richard A 'Dick'Wachsmuth and he preceded her in death. After coming to Sidney in 1943, Mildred taught for many years at Holy Angels School and was very involved in the Legion of Mary and Schoenstatt. She was a former director of the Shelby County Cancer and Health Foundation. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Holy Angels Rosary Altar Sodality, and the Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She is remembered for humor, her commitment to honesty, and her love of this country and the flag. She is survived by three nieces, Linda O'Haver, Cynthia O'Haver, and Sandra Perez; and one nephew, Scott Rast, all of Tucson, Arizona; and special friends Mike Barhorst, Ed Gearhart, and Fran Holthaus. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her step-sister Carol Rast, and her sister-in-law Kathleen Wachsmuth. Her departing words for us: smile and be happy. I have waited a long time to meet my God and the Holy Family. Special thanks to the staff of Ohio Living Dorothy Love and Wilson Hospice. Memorials can be sent to Holy Angels School and Lehman High School. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 9AM-10AM at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 10:30AM, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney, Ohio, with Fr. Peter Langenkamp officiating. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery Sidney, immediately following mass.
