Nancy Zimmerman Beckman, age 97, passed away August 9, 2024 at Ohio Living Dorothy Love

Retirement Community (DLRC) in Sidney, Ohio where she had lived for the past 32 years. She was born

May 1, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio, to David Levi (Lee) and Blanche (Sullenberger) Cramer, the youngest of eight

children, two brothers and five sisters.

Nancy is survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Zimmerman Houk (Cliff) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and several

nieces and nephews as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her

parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther Zimmerman in 1972 and Frank Beckman in

1997, three infant sons and all her sisters and brothers: Helen, Bill, Alice, Cliff, Mary, Jane and Wanita.

Nancy graduated from Piqua High School in 1945. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of

Christ in Sidney, Ohio. She lived in Troy, Ohio for many years where she was the church secretary for

over 20 years at Troy’s St. John’s United Church of Christ working with nine different pastors before

retiring in 1987.

After retiring in Troy, Nancy volunteered in the wider community including FISH and Literacy is for

Everyone known as LIFE. After moving in 1997 to a home at DLRC, she continued volunteering as the

librarian in the Amos Center from 1996-2004; she was a Stephen Minister and served on the resident

board, all at DLRC. She was also an active member of the community and her church in many other

ways.

Nancy loved reading, writing poetry and crafts but most of all loved her cat Middy. She was known for

always having candy treats outside her door to share with anyone who happened by. Even after moving

into DLRC assisted living area she continued this practice. She wished to be remembered by the love she

gave to each person. In her words she wrote, “I have learned one thing-the more love you give, the

more you receive. Thanks to each of you. If I leave anything of true value to you, let it be my expression

of thankfulness.”
