Spiros Jannides

Spiros Jannides, 82, 1611 Beck Dr., Sidney, Ohio passed away of natural causes on Friday, December 25, 2015 at 7:30 AM at his daughter, Christa Bishops home in Mason, Ohio. He was born October 26, 1933 in Corfu, Greece the son of Michael Ioannides and Mary Leone and they are deceased. He married Mary Kookootsedes on June 14, 1964 and she survives along with two daughters, Christa and husband Eric Bishop of Mason, Ohio and Stephanie Jannides of Mason, Ohio and a son, Michael Jannides of Sidney, Ohio; one brother, Panagiotis Ioannides and his wife Rafaela of Italy; four grandchildren, Zoe, Eleni, and Lucas Bishop and Sophia Jannides. Spiro came to the United States on Christmas Day in 1952. He attended the University of Wisconsin and Penn State and earned a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in International Relations. From 1958-1964 he was the Assistant Dean of Men at Bucknell University. He was the Homecoming King at the University of Wisconsin. He had worked at the Copeland Corporation in Sidney for thirty six years and was the Director of the Department of Human Resources. He was on the Board of Trustees at Edison State College in Piqua and was in charge of the Copeland Scholarships. He had been a substitute teacher at Fort Loramie Schools. He was a member of Sidney Rotary Club and a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Father William Cassis. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park N, Dayton, Ohio 45405. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
